You Are Either Fed or Fasted

You know, you’re either fed, or you’re fasted.

You’re either eating and storing food as fat, or you’re fasting and using the fat that you’ve already stored.

Good morning everyone, this is old Butter Bob. I’m out here on an early morning stroll.

Behind me is a pretty famous landmark here in my hometown, it’s called the Cream City sign.

And at night, years ago, it used to be a lit up neon sign.

And here, where I’m standing is the old historic Depot, the Historic Depot.

And behind me, not too far from here, is an old historic train.

I’ll show you, there’s the caboose, and there’s the coal car, there’s the engine.

Your Body Knows How to Burn Fat

There’s a lot of gimmicks out there. There’s a lot of people trying to sell you stuff.

And they’re trying to sell you stuff because when someone’s desperate, they’ll do almost anything. They’re ripe for the pickings. But, that’s not what my work’s all about. My work’s about telling you the truth about weight loss.

And you know what the most important thing you could possibly understand about weight loss is? Your body knows how to burn that fat you have. It knows how. All you have to do is, give it the tools it needs, and it’ll set in to losing the weight and keeping it off.

Eat this, eat that

Everybody in the world says eat this, eat that. What can you eat, to lose weight? But that’s the wrong question.

Even I say it. You know, even I have said it in the past. You know, when I say, Butter Makes Your Pants Fall Off, I’m telling you to eat a certain thing.

Of course there’s a reason for that, you know, eating butter and eating fatty foods, cuts your appetite off and allows you to do the thing that I’m going to tell you to do right now.

You know, you’re either fed, or you’re fasted. You’re either eating and storing food as fat, or you’re fasting and using the fat that you’ve already stored.

Fasting is the key to losing weight, It really is. And it’s surprisingly easy to do.

My Most exciting Light Bulb Moment

This was the most exciting thing to me that I have ever understood is the day that it finally dawned on me what George Cahill saying, the scientist that I talk about a lot.

If a person doesn’t eat, doesn’t eat their body’s insulin level goes down enough that the body starts burning fat.

The problem is that people eat a low calorie diet or a high carb, low calorie diet, and they’re eating a little bit at a time, all through the day. And they never give their body enough time to get into fat burning mode.

But, once you give your body enough time, if you give your body enough time, it goes into fat burning mode.

That’s what it does.

It’s the most amazing thing in the world.

Once you understand this, once you understand the real magic to weight loss is not eating

You’re going to make this not doing something, which is fasting

It’s like, everybody wants to do something, but the best thing you could do is to do nothing.

To do nothing at all. What you want to do, is do nothing. You want to not eat, for periods of time.

There’s no food that you can eat to lose weight.

The whole entire weight loss industry has trained us to believe that it is food.

FOOD is the magic to losing weight.

What food can you eat to lose weight?

Well, I’m going to tell you something there’s no food that you can eat to lose weight. And that’s literally it. There’s no food that you can eat to lose weight. None at all.

The only way to lose weight is to not eat. And not eating is the magic of weight loss.

Powerful Experiment you can do for Yourself

I want, I want to tell you something give yourself a little experiment.

You’re not losing weight?

I want you to get up in the morning and not eat. I want you to eat your dinner at night, and eat all you want and I mean ALL you want.

Sleep all night and get up in the morning and don’t eat a thing until dinnertime the next day.

And do that every day. Do it every day.

And you’ll lose weight. You’ll lose weight.

And yea, I’m a big advocate for Low Carb High Fat because I believe fat people, I mean it’s a proven fact, fat people have a lot more insulin than thin people but, I’ll be honest with you, I honestly believe that any diet that you choose to eat, if you do this plan, you’ll lose weight.

Now, let’s be honest if you do that, if you choose a high carb diet, you’re more than likely not going to be as healthy as you should be, because nothing is more dangerous for your health than having high blood sugars.

So, I would choose a high fat diet especially if I was really heavy.

But, if you’ll do a 24 hour fast it would really amount to 23 and a half, you’re going to find you’re losing weight.

And forget counting calories, forget doing anything, eat, eat all you want at your meal at night, eat and enjoy yourself because, this is what the magic is, during that time, when you’re not eating, You’re in fat burning mode. Big time.

Yes, there’s other ways. I think a more sustainable way for most people would be the 16 hour fast.

But, I want to tell you something, if you just want no rules at all, eat one meal a day and fast.

And you’ll find this is the most powerful thing you have ever done in your life.

Because, it is the most powerful thing you’ve ever done in your life.

There is nothing on the face of this earth that’s more powerful than turning on your body’s own biology.

And your body’s own biology, is fasting.

Look, after so many hours your body switches over to burning fat.

And if it’s burning fat on a regular daily basis, you’re going to start losing weight. You’re going to start losing more and more weight. You just are.

And there’s nothing more powerful than that. There’s no diet that’s more powerful than that. Although I’m a strong advocate for low carb, high fat, I’m even a more stronger advocate for fasting. Because fasting is natures way.

Boy, the morning sun is out good, this morning. Makes me feel good, all over. Nothing’s more rejuvenating than coming out for a little walk. Clearing your mind. Hope you’ve enjoyed this little video, without all the technicalities without all the studies.

The most powerful thing I can tell you to do is, Fast.

You’re either fed or fasted.

They call me Butter Bob, but . . .

There’s something more to my story than Butter.

You Can See My Before and After

Bob Briggs at 320 lbs and now after losing 145 lbs

You Can Watch My Videos

  • But, you don’t know my whole story until you understand I lost 145 lbs with both Butter AND Fasting.
  • Most diets force you to use “will power” to eat less, but this doesn’t work for long.
  • A better way is eating healthy fats, like Butter, which turn off the “out of control hunger urges” that you’ve struggled with all your life.
  • This gives you complete appetite control.
  • This appetite control gives you freedom without using “will power” and enables you to do what is called “intermittent fasting“.
  • No diet or exercise plan can DO for you what Short Term Fasting can do.
  • But until you actually learn all the things intermittent fasting can DO for you, it’s just my word and my story, it doesn’t relate to you.
  • They call me Butter Bob, but the truth is, I could just as easily be called Fasting Bob.

Hey Bob, I have a question that, so far, nobody has been able to answer, net vs total calories. Over the last year I’ve been going to the gym, like a crazyperson. As the treadmill can only go for an hour I use my weight and >600 calories to determine the mph I need to go to achieve ~650 calories So even if it is 10% off that is still about 600 calories 6 times per week or 3600 calories/wk for a magical 1lb/week added to TEE. It was not until recently that it dawned on me what the solution was, as this is a combination of Jason Fung, Roy Taylor, and a handful of others. It isn’t just eating less, which worked phenomenally over the last year but it’s losing intraorgan fat, liver then pancreas. So, let’s take the New Castle diet, for instance, perhaps even coupled with Michael Mosley’s diet and eat ~600/day only at dinner.
Is zero net carbs OK? I would guess yes as you are still consuming all the essential nutrients at dinner. That caloric intake is being negated by exercise so you still have your BMR to be addressed by stored far or glucogen (pg 239 Obesity Code).

The other thing I can’t explain is I try to stay under 700 cals at dinner and fast the other 21+ hours. Before I leave this subject after feeding is the post absobtive phase, 6 to 24 hours after fasting starts. During this phase the glycogen stored in the liver is used. But at less than 24 hrs you are back to eating again. When does one ever get to converting fat and triglycerides to glycerol?

Initially I was waking with a fbs of 91, 92. Not bad but not good. Occasionally I’d have 101, 105 and once, 110. This 12 hrs after eating a small meal. Just for grins I tried something, right before dinner I tested again and was 80. So what does this tell me? If, prior to eating my fbs dropped to say 50 I’d be concerned. But I think 80 is good but that is 21 hrs later, 12 hours later it is between 90 and 110. Should that be a concern or does it indicate I still need more time to unclog my pancreas? Today I am going to try 36 hours. I had breakfast and I will fast until dinner tomorrow evening. Oh, I must add, zero sugar and zero simple carbs.

    Sounds good, thanks!!
Im going to try something new. I am going to wean myself off the BP Coffee (contains butter and cream) that I’ve been nursing all day…and eat the majority of my calories at lunch instead at noon. Then a small mini meal at 8 only if hungry (HFCL Low P) Then no more calories until noon the following day. That will be a 16 hour fast from 8PM that night til 12 noon the next day. I have found that no matter what I was having for Bfast I was hungry at 11:30 noon and would eat again. And then no matter what I had at Lunch I was hungry at 4:30 – 5 PM. And then I would still want to eat later, whether I worked late or went home. So now I want to break that cycle. I also think I will need to switch to black coffee in the am. The BPC was great to get me to transition from High Carb to Low Carb but now it is preventing my fast bc I dont finish it and linger over it too long and the calories are causing insuling to still be produced / digestion in spite of the low carbs bc of my current fat composition. I just finished my lunch and couldnt eat the rest of the 2 oz cheese I brought bc I am full. It was a large lunch with 1208 cal, 115 gr fat, & 37 G pro. Its auto Tracked for me on Atkns app. If I have true hunger I will eat at 8PM something smaller like a shake w cream or salad with avocado cheese and fats around 4-500 cal max. Then fast again til noon and see how it goes. I cant fast all day at work. Too stressful and too many temptations at every turn. But if I can I will increase the midday meal and cut out the later mini meal. Wish me luck!! 🙂

This a fantastic lecture. I know it works because i’ve done it. I went from an hba1c of 12 five years ago to discovering yesterday that it is now 5.2. Most of that progress ocurred when i went very low carb 4 months ago. In that time i’ve lost 4 inches off my waist. I fast every other day for 23 1/2 hours. Then i eat. I eat a 50/50
ratio of meat to fat. I still have cravings for carbs but that fat satiates me to the point that i can resist giving in. Yesterday i fasted 26 hours without realizing it. I shared the information that you give in your videos with my doctor especially about background insulin and coverting out metabolism from glucose burning to fat burning and she said, “W ell, i think what you are doing is too extreme an not sustainable. Furthermore, i think you are starving yourself and slowing down your metabolism.” This after she tells me that out of the hundreds of people at the clinic that she has seen, no one except me has reduced their a1c to 5.2. She is clearly brainwashed by the food industry, big Pharma and nutrition experts who are wedded to the old ways of thinking about how people should eat. have an appointment with a new doctor in July. Bob you are someone who has saved my health, saved my life. Stable mood, great energy, great skin, weigt loss. Especially fat loss, and hopely now that my blood sugar numbers are normal i will have lowered my background insulin.

    • Darlene fishel says:

Just need to add this. Most of us who
are wake realize as you do
that what is driving all of this misinformation and brainwashing is money. Who stands to lose the most? Big Pharma because as you note, they can’t make money off if people not eating and if people are not eating and not making themselves sick
then how are they going to make money on all of those drugs they’ve spent billions on developing and promoting to treat the illiness that arise from eating? It should be obvious that the food industry will suffer because how can they profit from people fasting? Expect blowback from industry who will hire hack doctors to say fasting is dangerous.

      • Walt says:

While I agree with you I do not agree with why. If you pay attention to the Jason Fung videos he tells us when he was in med school he got something like 4 1/2 hrs of nutritional information. At no time during internship or residency did they cover diabetes and what they’ve (medical science) have re-learned recently. Fung discusses journals and writings from physicians in the 1800’s that indicate they understood the cause of obesity and obesity related illnesses. It was likely that first food pyramid chart in the 70’s that likely was financed by General Foods or General Mills (eat sugar and all things white) that was the start of the problem. As Fung points out, everybody thought the issue was too much fat not too much simple carbs. Jason Fung, further admits initially in his practice he advised patients with the same, as it turned out, bad, information until he did some research and caught the error. Science always held diabetes was chronic and progressive. That’s what they were taught.

Not everything is a conspiracy. As Dr Roy Taylor, father of the New Castle studies said, when they published a notice to physicians, what he found is new and not what your Dr was taught. An irate patient running screaming to their Dr that (s)he doesn’t know what they are talking about will just not end well. He goes on to say it will take time for the books used in Medical School to get changed. and adopted. Yes, that the ADA is funded by many companies in the business of selling insulin and insulin substitutes. The current trials Dr Taylor is involved in is to see if his landmark work with reversing diabetes can be managed in a primary care setting. That study will go until 2018.
This is largely all new stuff. Be thankful you were as proactive as your were. Oh, fasting absolutely CAN be dangerous. Look up ketoacidosis.

  • Sherri says:

Thanks Bob for the time you take to do these videos. I have learned so much and look forward to each new one. I have been searching all my life for the answer to my weight problem. You helped me find it. Now to get the job done. I have begun to use fasting and hope to see weight loss soon.

  • Manuel Navarrete says:

    Hi! Bob,
I live in Finland, swim 1500 meters three times per week, an do many other work at home, walk with the dog. I do not eat sugar, bread, pasta not refined food.
Also eat small quantities of carbs, about a month ago I star a need approach.
8 hours eat and 16 fasting, it does not work. But finally the Doctor found that I have Fatty Liver, and to me this is the problem to loose the extra weight.
1.- I have to fix mine liver.
As usual I eat butter, cheese, meat, bacon and a lots of vegetables then fastening.
Please, tell me if I am doing the right thing,

  • S Varadarasan says:

Thanks Bob! for your effort in trying to help people to lead a healthy life.

    Can I be clarified:

that fat (while on fasting) is burned to get energy. Does this mean the fat is broken down and converted as sugars and Insulin is needed to take this sugars to cells to get energy. Here also we need Insulin (as I understand). Kindly send me a reply

How long many days of fasting (24 hours) or IF (20/4) should it take someone who is insulin resistant to not be anymore? A few days? A Few weeks? Great videos, I really enjoy them!

  • Christine says:

I do what we call it here in South Africa, the Banting diet.(high fat, low carb, medium protein). I only had a couple of kilos to lose but I am very interested in health and now I am maintaining my weight. Since watching your videos I have added intermittent fasting and it feels great! I fast every alternative day 3 x a week. One 36 hr and 2 24hr fasts. I will do this for 3 weeks and then settle for one 36 hr fast a week after that. Thank you for inspiring us to do better!

  • Kim Gallegos says:

After watching your video “Fed or Fasted” I have decided to give it a try. I am on day 2 and it is going well so far. I drink lots of water to get me through the day. My question for you is… Can I drink coffee, specifically BPC while fasting? I have only used HWC these past two days and was wondering if butter was a good choice to have . Thanks in advance for your help!
